It’s recital week T_T. But I am actually pretty excited. But let’s back it up to the weekend. As I believe I mentioned, I went to two different flute recitals this weekend. One was a fellow studio member and the other our professor. Both were incredible. The student one on Saturday was really entertaining and the pieces were all so different from each other, it was really cool. After the recital, some of us in the studio went to celebrate both recitals that happened by students at a fusion Asian place, which was pretty good. I don’t think I did much else Saturday, just taking a day off and then the recital.
Sunday was a bit busier. I woke up and decided to head to Target for some things I needed, stopping to get boba first of course. Out of curiosity, I headed to the back and discovered that my target finally has Maxident albums in stock…and I couldn’t help myself but to buy another. I had a gift card though, so really I didn’t pay for it 😉 . It was a good decision though because I got some good PC’s…..that’s something I never thought I’d be that excited about. I also got Piper some new toys, which she’s seeming to really enjoy. Then I headed to my professors recital which was really cool. She played on a bunch of wooden flutes from around the world and one’s that she’s made or had made. It was a really cool concert with a good crowd. Afterwards I may have again gone out to eat with people…my wallet isn’t happy but my stomach is. I tried a calzone for the first time and I honestly might like it a bit more than pizza.
Today felt like another busy day. We had band rehearsal which was fine, then a smaller performance at convocation. I played Tuberama and I think I did pretty good. I definitely moved, so that’s improvement. It still wasn’t as much as I planned, but definitely more than normal. It was kind of weird to be dancing around then looking out to the audience and basically seeing blank stares…but that’s okay! Hopefully I’ll be even more comfortable for my recital Thursday (ahh).
Practicing today was okay, just running through my recital and working on some last preparations for that. I did start to have quite a bit of pain in my jaw, it started yesterday and continued to get worse throughout today. It’s definitely frustrating, but also something that I’ve been having on and off. I think when I get stressed and am playing a lot, it all goes straight to my tmj joint. So I’m working on finding some solutions to that. I know it’s pretty common in flutists to struggle with and I’ve read some things on it to help, but if anyone has tried anything to help relieve the pain that works for them, I’d love to hear! I spent a while today massaging the area and stretching it a bit as well as some medicine to help get rid of the pain, which seemed to help. Even though I looked weird rubbing my face lol.
Anyways, that’s about all I’ve got. Tomorrow I’ve got a dress rehearsal in the space for my recital to run things with the piano and test levels for Tuberama. I’m hoping to record then just in case as well. Then Wednesday I believe is just “normal” or as normal that the day before your recital can be 🙂
