Flute Adventure series

Hello everyone! I am excited to announce the first ever group class I’m offering: Small Notes, Big Dreams: A Beginner Flute Adventure. Over the course of 6 weeks, young flute players under the age of 14, have the opportunity to begin learning to play flute! From never touching a flute, to having some knowledge of music from previous instruments, to someone who’s curious about what music is like- all beginning level flutists are welcome to attend. Students will meet once a week for 45 minutes in my home studio. They will learn how to put the flute together, how to make a sound and the beginnings of how to read music, as well as ending the 6 weeks with a small recital for friends and family.

Classes will be held every Saturday from 10:00- 10:45 am, beginning on June 21, 2025.
Early-Bird Tuition will be 150$ for six weeks of classes, meeting once a week. Early registration prices will close on June 1, 2025 at midnight. After June 1, 2025, tuition will be raised to 180$.
*** Please note: Tuition must be paid by the date of our first class in it’s entirety. Payments are preferred to be made with check or paypal. If you are unable to pay by our first class, you or your child will be asked to leave, unless you have notified me and I have agreed to accept the tuition payment later. If paying tuition all at once would be too much financially for your family, but you or your child really want to participate, contact me and we can work something out!

*A flute (duh):
The biggest question you may have is “where on earth can I get a flute for my child?” and upon researching may come across to find out how much flutes can cost! While there are flutes sold on online places like Amazon, it is not recommended to buy a flute this route. Many of these flutes are made with poor quality and can easily break, which can make learning the flute even more frustrating for a child. Buying a standard flute is a large monetary commitment and I am fully aware of that. Why spend hundreds of dollars on an instrument that your child may end up not wanting to play again? It’s for this reason that I HIGHLY recommend looking into renting a good flute. Hurst Music in Lexington, KY, has a really great and affordable flute rental policy; I recommend heading to their website to get more information on it, but it really is a great deal. It’s who my parents rented through years ago when I was fist learning. They have high quality instruments and if anything happens to it in your care, they also do repairs. This way, you can save some money and make sure your child enjoys playing and wants to continue, being able to return the flute at any time.
*A notebook or pencil for notes:
I recommend sending your child with some sort of small notebook and a pencil, this way they can note what they should practice throughout the week until we meet. At the very least, a pencil is an important musical tool! They can mark on their music what to practice if a notebook is too much for them.
*Optional: music
Through the class I will be using the “Abracadabra Flute” book by Malcolm Pollock. I will have copies available for students, but having their own hardcopy of the book could be beneficial and harder to loose. For reference, the book is available on Amazon for around 12$. Any music we use outside of this book will also be provided!
*A good attitude!
Learning an instrument has lots of ups and downs. It’s not always easy and fun, though I will try my absolute hardest to make our classes fun, because music is supposed to be fun! Having a good attitude and being willing to try is a very important skill to have. If your child is already super pumped and determined, great! If not, that’s also great, still send them over!! These are skills that they will be learning alongside the instrument. Learning an instrument can help teach patience, determination, and much more.

Click the link below to sign up for the classes! Around June 15, 2025 when the participants are finalized, I will reach out to everyone with the boring legal forms I have to do in order to keep everyone safe, as well as payment information and location of my studio/where we will have our small recital.
