Thursday was super busy, but fun. I had my electronic music class, which was alright. We listened to each other’s assignments which was really cool. Afterwards, I ran quick errands (aka got gas) and then loaded up my car with people from the flute studio here. We decided to leave here early so we could grab food, which we did. The car ride up was fun and we went to a ramen place. I thought the ramen was great and the restaurant itself was really pretty. Then I half forced everyone to get boba because we still had an hour until the doors opened for the event. So I parked where the event was and we walked to get some boba. By the time we got back, we rehearsed a bit for our flashmob and then the event began. It started with just some time for people to get there and to see the few exhibits they had. Our prof gathered us all to meet Ian Clarke and grab a pic which was nice…even though I still haven’t gotten that one…There was a masterclass portion with Ian Clarke, which was honestly really interesting. I knew I loved his compositions, and they’ve been a big part of my motivation to continue playing flute, but I guess I didn’t think about the fact that he would also be a great flute player and teacher. He was super nice and fun, which made the masterclass that much more enjoyable. At the end of the masterclass was our flute studio’s flashmob of the Great Train Race for him, which he seemed to really enjoy. Then after a short break, Ian Clarke gave a recital, which was just incredible. He played mostly his own pieces, most of which I was familiar with and a few I wasn’t, but it was incredible. I don’t know why I wasn’t expecting him to be that good, like his compositions are amazing, so it makes sense that he’s such a talented player. It was a good recital! Afterwards we got a group picture from the event and I got brave enough to thank him for coming and playing for us, and also just writing music that has inspired me to continue playing flute. Then we headed back with another….um…interesting drive. We kinda lost our minds in my car.

Group photo from the event!

I got back super late, so I didn’t end up practicing today, opting to sleep more instead. I was still tired all day though. It was kinda a boring day today ngl. I had rehearsal and then my methods and pedagogy class, nothing super exciting happened in either. I kinda felt like a zombie all day 🙂 . But now I have a weekend. to chill a bit, which will be nice. I don’t think I have plans for tomorrow, maybe a rehearsal for the quartet I’ll be playing, and then Sunday a flute player has invited everyone over so unless I’m too people-d out, I’ll be doing that!
