Another probably big post lol. So first off, I had my recital!! One step closer to getting this degree, yay! I’m overall really happy with how it went. The first half was not quite where I wanted it to be, but that’s what happens with live performance. The second half, however, I feel great about. I literally had so much fun performing Hatching Aliens, and the dress my sibling made was also a huge highlight of the recital. I was surprised by some flutes in the studio, as a few had told me they weren’t going to be able to make it- which of course I understood and told them it was ok, and it would have been totally okay if they didn’t, but of course I was a bit disappointed at the news, but many of them ended up showing up 🙂 . My band director even showed up T_T . And of course having my parents in town was really nice.
The week after my recital was a bit rough, but surprisingly not because of a basketball game I led. Speaking of, I did do another pep band game, much to my dismay. No one else could cover it, but me, so I did it….with some help. I thankfully convinced one of the ga’s to go to the game and help me after their class, which I am still extremely thankful for. Aka, the game went fine. No panic attacks here which I think is a massive win compared to my last post. So why was the week rough then? Well, I had some sort of sinus-y cold thing going on. I drank A LOT of tea and water and eventually began to feel better by Thursday. Which was good because Friday I headed home to stay a night and then headed down to Bowling Green that Saturday. My sibling got into a main stage show (a pretty big deal) and played a pretty big character in a show called Neighborhood 3…I think. They worked so incredibly hard at the show that I couldn’t bear not to go, so even though it was my one free weekend of the month, I traveled the 8-something-hours to see it. And it didn’t disappoint. My sibling obviously killed their part, but the show overall was definitely one of my favorites that I’ve seen from WKU.
This past week was also super busy, go figure. Monday we had a concert, which was fine. But Thursday, once again oddly enough, was the big day where we all got onto a bus and began our trip to Memphis. We stayed in Lexington the first night, so my parents came up and we ate dinner together which was again really nice (and I got to hear all about how Piper had been doing, since I had dropped her off there the weekend before to take care of her….I still miss her rn…3 more days till I see my puppy T_T). Then we were actually in Memphis for a day-ish. Our band was invited to play at CBDNA, which is a big deal in the band world. The hall was super nice. Funny story though (it’s actually not funny). About 10min before the concert, I wanted to swab out my piccolo, so I reached into my pocket to grab said swab and down my piccolo went to the floor…so my Ab key is now bent a little off. It played perfectly fine for the concert, which is really good, but it’s bent enough to where I am going to take it in and get it fixed. We also got some BBQ in Memphis, which was good…though I have to say…my dad’s BBQ is just as good wen he uses his smoker o.o . Along with many stops along the way, Saturday night I was back in bowling green. So, this time my sibling came and got me, with too many surprises bc they’re too giving <3. We ended up getting some ice cream before going to their apartment to eat some rabokki, play some old throwback games on a wii u, did a face mask, and laughed a ton before I spent the night there (which was so needed after staying in a hotel. I don’t sleep well in hotels, but I slept without waking up at all at their place, which is super unusual). Seeing their dog was a plus too lol, she’s so cute. When we got up, we went to a little coffee shop that’s actually pretty big in BG, but I had never gone to. It was good lol. Then it was time to say goodbye and I got back on the bus for another like 3 hours before a stop, then another few hours and so on until late Sunday when we got back into Morgantown. It was a lot. But also fun. Though I will say I don’t think it would have been quite as fun if I didn’t get to see my family- but I’m just lucky haha.
I’ll go into today briefly, though not much happened. We did find out that there are now many sick people who are on the trip with various sicknesses….and I woke up not feeling great. I assumed it was the same thing I was dealing with last week, but wanted to be sure, so I got a covid test and things and it all came back negative, and honestly right now I feel fine. So hopefully it’s just because I’m a bit sleep deprived.
To wrap up, I’m going to spoil a bit of what I’m working on/doing. I decided to do a sort of mental health challenge for social media. Each week of the month I am choosing an activity to do to help my mental health and see if it works or if I like it. I love this blog, but I also love watching videos, so I think I’m going to have a video for social media and then a blog post dedicated to that challenge, where I can go more into detail on the activities I’ve done. To get you excited, hopefully, for the first week I made my bed every day, or tried to, and this week I am trying to go on a short walk every day. So get excited for that.
