Yesterday wasn’t super exciting, just practicing. I’m definitely pretty tired of my recital rep, so I did spend some time yesterday on some new music which was refreshing. I also played around a bit on my glissando head joint. I didn’t have rehearsal, which was nice. Instead I worked on my electronic music assignment which was fun. I basically recorded a bunch of flute samples then played around with them to make my own drum kit and I was extra and also made a midi instrument out of a different sample. I never want to start homework, but when it comes to this class, once I start it’s hard to stop. After that, I just did some other homework and hung out.

Today I did a lot and I don’t know why lol. I honestly think it was a good reset though and I’m probably going to try adding in more walks on Thursday’s since I’m not practicing to just reset and relax a bit. Class today was fine, then afterwards I decided I wanted to go somewhere secluded. Or as secluded as I could find in Morgantown WV. There was a little park I went to that was just that. There was a really cool mosaic mural there which was a cool surprise. I hung out in the frisbee golf area for a bit, just looking out for a bit then literally laying down and watched the clouds. It was quiet and no one was there, so it was just really nice to breathe and take in the sun and nice weather. There was a rock formation and look out spot at the park too, so I did a steep mini hike up to it, then rested at the top for a bit. I took a lot of pictures that I’m sure will be used towards this blog as those little picture preview things lol.

Afterwards, I headed back to civilization to meet up with some other flute players to play for each other since we basically have back to back recitals. It’s always helpful to play for them since it’s more relaxed, but still an opportunity to play for people and see how things go and what should be worked on more. Then, I sort of regretfully, decided to go with them on another hike, this time at the arboretum near the music building. It’s a decent hike and I forget that it is a bit intense getting back up lol. I’ll probably wake up sore tomorrow LOL. But it was nice to hang out and walk around with them, enjoying the nice weather. We were practically running up the mountain to get back to campus so two of them could make it to orchestra rehearsal though. That part wasn’t so fun. The rest was though 🙂 .

The path leads down a mountain from campus down to the river!

Finally, I went out to eat with a friend, though I may or may not have accidentally backed into a metal barrier and dented my car…oops. It’s not that bad though. First time I’ve dented a car though and I’ve been driving for a bit. Anyway we went to a cafe that I’ve never been to, but it had such great thai food, though it was a bit spicier than I usually go for. But I did learn that I like Thai tea! Now I’m back home and will mostly just chill since I don’t have anything I need to do (which is still a bit weird to me).

Overall, today especially was great. Ever since deciding to not practice on Thursday’s, my Thursday’s are honestly great. It’s a day for me to just relax a bit and reset my brain. It’s also the day that I’ve been doing stuff with people, which as I’ve mentioned before, is still a new thing for me, but something that I enjoy and am thankful to finally have. I feel like I definitely start my week feeling okay and then by Wednesday night I want to be done. Then I’ll have a Thursday like today and it’s not so hard to push myself to practice Friday and Saturday. Eventually, I hope that I’ll be able to add practicing on Thursday back in, but right now I’m really enjoying the time off. Especially just using that time to go outside and move. I forget how much I just enjoy sitting outside and doing quite literally nothing, or just driving down the streets with my sun roof open, singing along to music. It’s been helping me mentally a lot and I can say these past few Thursdays have been some of the best mentally, which is good. I think the next post will be on Monday. Tomorrow and Saturday will probably be pretty typical and uneventful, but then Sunday I have a concert in Charleston. That’ll be like an all day shindig so I’m guessing I’ll have more to say about that 🙂
